After the takeover of the government in Nepal by king Gyanendra who refused to accept democratic rule and constitutional monarchy. King Gyanendra ignored the democratically elected government and dissolved the parliament in 2005. He seized power in February 2005. People in Nepal established democracy in 1990 by overthrowing the panchayat system. After it, King Birendra, the ruler of Nepal, became the leader, but the actual control was in the hands of the elected representatives in the parliament. King Birendra had accepted the constitutional monarchy, and Nepal was functioning democratically till 2005, when a new king Gyanendra, took over the throne and dissolved the parliament.
