Lala Lajpat Rai, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, and Bipin Chandra Pal were popularly known as Lal, Bal, and Pal, a trio of assertive nationalists. This trio, known as the Radicals, took a more direct and radical approach. Lala Lajpat Rai was also known as 'Sher-e-Punjab' (Punjab Lion) and Punjab Kesari. Keshav Gangadhar Tilak, also known as Bal Gangadhar Tilak, was a law student from Poona, Maharashtra. The British referred to him as the "Father of Indian Unrest." He popularised the phrase, "Swaraj is my birthright, and I shall have it." To spread his ideas, he founded the newspaper Kesari. Bipin Chandra Pal was labelled the "Father of Revolutionary Thoughts."
