Detailed Solution

Laterite has been derived from the greek word 'Later', which means "brick." They're primarily tropical soils with high temperatures and seasonal rainfall. As a result, it improves soil drainage. Rain always washes away lime and silica. They take on their shape as a result of decomposition. Bacteria that thrive in high temperatures quickly reduce the humus content of the soil. The rocks have been completely leached away, leaving a considerable amount of iron and aluminium residue in their place. Laterite soils in India are not exceptionally productive and must be supplemented with much manure and fertilizer.
