Socialism in Russia led to the foundation of the Russian Social Democratic Workers Party in 1898. Few socialists who formed the party, Social Revolutionaries, believed that the peasants were natural socialists as they periodically adopted the method of dividing the land. They were active in the countryside and fought for peasants' issues. They were included in the socialist ambit. However, Social Democrats thought that peasants were not one united group and the party must focus on workers only. So, the party was divided into two groups:
