Detailed Solution

Length of a rectangle is three times its breadth. Perimeter of the rectangle is 40 cm. Then the length and width of the rectangle are 15cm and 5cm respectively.
Given that perimeter of the rectangle = 40 cm.
According to the given condition,
Length of a rectangle is three times its width then,
Length = 3 width                                                         l=3w                      …(1)
Then,
Perimeter of the rectangle = 2 × (length + width)
40 = 2 × (3w + w)                          using (1)
40 = 2 × 4w
40 = 8 × w
w  = 408
w  = 5
Width of the rectangle is 5 cm.
Then from equation (1),
l = 3 × 5 = 15
Length of the rectangle is 15 cm.
Hence, the length is 15 cm and the width is 5 cm.
