Q.

Let R1 and R2 be relations on the set {1,2,..........,50} such that R1={(p,pn):p is a prime and n0 is an integer} and R2={(p,pn):p   is  a  prime  and  n=0  or  1}. Then 3 times the number of elements in R1R2 is__________.

Given a set {1,2,......50}

Possible choices of P are 2,3,5,7,11,13,17,23,29,31,37,41,43 and 47.

So, we can calculate no. of elements in R1 as (2,20),(2,21)......(2,25)

(3,30),........(3,33)

(5,50),.......(5,52)

(7,70),.....(7,72)

(11,110),......(11,111)

Every number of Pn should lie in the given set {1,2,.....50}.

Total number of relations are  n(R1)=6+4+3+(2×10)=36

Similarly for relation R2, (2,20),(2,21)......(47,470),(47,471)

Total number of relations are n(R2)=2×14=28

Required difference n(R1)n(R2)=3628=8
