Detailed Solution

Given circle x2+y2-ax-y=0

Let a (A, 1),  B (x, y) be extremities of a chord bisected by x-axis then mid point of AB lies on x-axis

  y+12=0  y+1=0  y=-1

 (x, -1) lien on the circle x2+y2-ax-y=0

  x2+1-ax+1=0  x2-ax+2=0

since two chords are possible then

 x2-ax+2=0 has two distinct roots

 a2-4(2)>0 (  discriminant greater than zero )

 a2>8
