 To detect the presence of phenol functional groups in a given sample. Materials Required- test tube, test tube holder, given organic compound, conc. Sulfuric acid, sodium hydroxide, sodium nitrite, distilled water, burner, etc.

Phenol: Reddish pink

Phenolic Compound: Colour

M-cresol: Blue or violet-blue

O-cresol: Red
