Detailed Solution

In contrast to unlike charges, which are positive-negative/negative-positive charges, like charges are positive-positive/negative-negative charges. The transmission of virtual photons can be used to explain how various charges interact when they are placed near together.
Complete response:
In contrast to unlike charges, which are positive-negative/negative-positive charges, like charges are positive-positive/negative-negative charges. While attraction is the force that causes two charges to come into touch with one another, repulsion is the force that causes two charges to move apart from one another.

We see two different forms of charges in nature. Both positive and negative charges exist. Most of us have probably felt the magnetic pull of rubbing our hands together while rubbing a piece of paper against a scale. Some of us would have also encountered the repellent force that harms electronic components when dealing with them. These mysterious natural forces are known as electrostatic forces.
Quantum mechanics may be used to explain electrostatic force. While a negative charge has fewer photons (protons) than a positive charge, the opposite is true for a positive charge. A surplus of photons from the positive charge are transferred to the negative charge when a positive charge is placed close to a negative charge, balancing the quantity of photons in both charges. An attractive attraction is created between them as a result of this virtual transfer of photons from a positive charge to a negative charge. Since there are more photons in one positive charge than the other after the virtual photon transfer, when one positive charge is brought close to another positive charge, they tend to repel one another. When two negative charges are brought near together, the same thing occurs. However, in this instance, the overabundance of electrons is what repels the two negative charges. Thus, utilising quantum physics, the transmission of virtual photons is used to explain electrostatic attraction and repulsion.
Accordingly, opposite charges attract while similar charges repel.

Hence, the correct answer is option A.
