Detailed Solution

Local legends and myths became a part of Puranas.
Bhagavadgita advocates the idea of a Supreme God who, if approached with devotion, could free humans from the cycle of birth and rebirth. This idea grew in popularity in mediaeval India among the people who were uneasy with the concept of good and bad deeds and social privileges that came with birth.
The deities worshipped through ritualistic practices as the supremes were Shiva, Vishnu, and Durga.
Gods and Goddesses in various areas were identified and connected to the three supremes via different legends and mythical stories. As a result, local myths and legends became a part of Puranas.
Along with the stories, worshipping methods and rituals recommended in Puranas got introduced to the local communities, regardless of their caste status.
