London was known as a finishing centre.
The Countryside and the town had developed a close relationship. Though the merchants' business was based in the towns, the work used to be done mainly in the Countryside. For example, England's clothier merchants purchased wool from a stapler in the Countryside. Then carried, the wool to the spinner for yarn (thread) formation, further to weavers, and fullers for subsequent stages. Finally, the cloth was sent to dyers, who were the entire countryside workforce. Before the export of cloth was in the international market, finishing was done in London, a well-established town. Thus London was also known as a finishing centre.
