Things seem to happen for a reason. People usually want to know the reason. The reason why things happen is called a cause. 

Suppose you fall off your bike. You want to know why. So you try to find out the cause of your fall. Maybe you hit a big bump on the sidewalk. It is the same in stories and pictures. You try to guess or infer why something happens. You try to find out the cause. 

Look at the pictures and find out why something happened.

Meg was going to play ball. Now, she cannot use her ball.
