Detailed Solution

Dalhousie introduced the policy of the doctrine of lapse, which was imposed on the states of India to annex land from the state and expand their empire because the British wanted to capture the whole of India. The doctrine of India was applied to those states in which the King and Queen did not have a biological or natural heir to succeed the throne. Those states were captured under this policy and ruled by Britishers. This was the policy to annex the state and rule. Jhansi, Satara, Nagpur, and Sambalpur were the states annexed under the doctrine of lapse.
