The liberal revolutionaries were angry against the Bourbon family, which had been reinstated during the French revolution. After the July Revolution, Louis Phillipe was instated as the constitutional monarch in 1830. Meanwhile, the widespread migration of people in many European countries, including France, caused severe economic depression in the 1830s. Several employees protested the poor working conditions and food shortages. As a result, the level of public discontent in 1848 was very high. It resulted in the abdication of Louis Phillipe, and a republic based on universal suffrage was declared in France.
