Luther's writings led to a division within the Church and to the beginning of the Protestant Reformation. Martin Luther was a church reformer in 16th-century Germany. His writings, extensively published by the printing press, called out the Roman Catholic Church for the corruption and malpractices of its officials. One of his famous works was the Ninety-Five Theses, which criticised the Catholic Church on various fronts, and its copy was displayed on the door of a church in Wittenberg. The large-scale publication of his writings made it possible to influence a considerable portion of the European population, which led to a schism in Christendom and the beginning of the Protestant Reformation movement. Many anti-Catholic traditions sprung out of this movement.
