Detailed Solution

On 9th January 1915, Mahatma Gandhi came from South Africa to India at the age of 46. Gandhi arrived at the Apollo Bunder in Mumbai on 9th January 1915 to a hero's welcome. Gandhi returned to India in 1915 at Gopal Krishna Gokhale's urging. He was already a well-known international leader. He organised nonviolent protests against racial limitations by Indians in South Africa. He had interacted with a variety of Indians during his South African campaigns, including Hindus, Muslims, Parsis, Christians, Gujaratis, Tamils, and north Indians, as well as upper-class merchants, lawyers, and labourers. Mahatma Gandhi travelled extensively during his first year in India to get to know the people, their needs, and their general condition.
