Detailed Solution

Mahatma Gandhi found in Salt a powerful symbol that could unite the nation.
Mahatma Gandhi felt he could unite the heterogeneous society by opting to break the salt law and defying the British. Everyone, from the rich to the poor, hated the British imposed salt law. He figured that this would create a united mass agitation. So he started the salt march or Dandi March from his Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi to break the salt law and disobey the British. As a result, numerous people in other parts of the country broke the oppressive salt law following him.
