Detailed Solution

Mahatma Gandhi named the untouchables Harijans. He believed that the emancipation of the lower castes and the campaign to abolish untouchability was as important as winning the political war with the British government. Mahatma Gandhi started the crusade to root out the evil of untouchability and named the depressed class Harijans, which means the children of god. Ha also organized satyagraha for the entry of the Harijans inside temples. He cleaned toilets and washrooms himself to dignify the work of scavenging.
