Detailed Solution

Mahatma Gandhi perceived salt as a strong symbol to unite the Nation during the civil disobedience movement. Mahatma Gandhi launched it on 12th march 1930. He took salt as a unity symbol because salt was an essential commodity consumed by the rich and poor and connected every section of society. And Salt tax was a premier face of British oppression and its monopoly over salt production. So Gandhi believed that an ordinary item like salt could give the movement momentum of success and eventually overthrow the Imperial rule.
