Detailed Solution

Mahatma Gandhi started the Dandi march to break the Salt law.
Gandhi announced in 1930 that he would lead a march to violate the salt ban. This law gave the government a monopoly over salt production and distribution. Gandhi and other nationalists believed that since salt was such a crucial component of the diet, taxing it was cruel. The Salt March united the rich and the poor by connecting the universal desire for freedom to a particular grievance that affected everyone. From Sabarmati to the seaside town of Dandi, Gandhi and his supporters marched for more than 240 miles. There, they disobeyed the law by collecting natural salt from the coastline and boiling seawater to make salt.
