Mahatma Gandhi wanted an education that could help Indians recover their sense of dignity and self-respect. In the nineteenth century, many thinkers from different parts of India put forward the need for education for all in India. Some Indians felt that Western education will help to modernise India but some felt differently. Mahatma Gandhi was among the ones who opposed it. He wanted a native education system that would be different from western one, in which Indians don't consider western education as superior, and also they don't feel inferior. He supported this education system to create a sense of dignity and self-respect among the people.
