Detailed Solution

Majoritarian policies were practised by the government of Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka gained independence in 1948. Under their majority, the leaders of the Sinhala community took charge of the democratic government. As a result, the government implemented a number of majoritarian policies to establish Sinhala dominance. A statute established Sinhala as the only official language of the nation in 1956. The government engaged in preferential hiring, giving preference to Sinhala candidates for academic and government positions. The Buddhist Sinhala politicians who controlled the government had little regard for the Tamil language and culture. Because of this, resentments between the Tamil and Sinhala groups increased over time and eventually culminated in a Civil War.
