Malonate inhibits the growth of pathogenic bacteria. Malonate is a competitive inhibitor of succinic dehydrogenase. Succinic dehydrogenase is an enzyme involved in the citric acid cycle as well as in the electron transport chain. By inhibiting the activity of succinic dehydrogenase, it disrupts the normal metabolic processes of the bacteria.
(1) Dinitrogenase catalyses the reduction of atmospheric nitrogen (N2) to ammonia (NH3) through a process called nitrogen fixation.
(3) Amylase catalyses the hydrolysis of starch and glycogen into smaller carbohydrate molecules.
(4) Lipase catalyses the hydrolysis of lipids, specifically triglycerides, into fatty acids and glycerol.
