Mansabdrs received their salaries as revenue assignments called Jagirs.
Mansabdars were paid by income assignments known as jagirs, akin to Iqtas. However, unlike Muqtis, most Mansabdars did not live in or manage their jagirs. While the Mansabdars personally served in different regions of the nation, they merely held rights to the income from their assignments, which was collected for them by their slaves. These jagirs were carefully evaluated throughout Akbar's rule, so their incomes were equivalent to the Mansabdars' wages. By the time of Aurangzeb, this was no longer the case, and the actual revenue was frequently lower than the amount granted.
