Many of the mills in Bombay were established by [[1]] and [[2]] businessmen who had made their money through trade with China.

Parsi and Gujarati businessmen established most of the mills in Bombay. Bombay was an important port for the export of raw cotton as it was close to the vast black soil tract of western India where cotton was grown.  These businessmen had made their money through trade with China.
