Marseillaise, a patriotic song, was composed by Joseph Rouget de Lisle.
La Marseillaise was a patriotic song by the poet Joseph Rouget de Lisle.  Louis XVI of France made a secret pact with the King of Prussia. In the summer of 1789, the rulers of the neighbouring countries were concerned about what was happening in France and planned to send troops to prevent it from happening. Thousands of volunteers from the provinces joined the army, who saw it as a war of the people against the nobility and kings across Europe. During the march, the volunteers sang many patriotic songs. The Marseillaise is one of the patriotic songs sung.
