Detailed Solution

The poet Joseph Rouget de Lisle composed Marseillaise, a patriotic song. The French national anthem, La Marseillaise, was written by amateur musician and captain Claude-Joseph Rouget de Lisle overnight on April 24, 1792, during the French Revolution. It quickly gained popularity among the Marseille Volunteer Army battalions and became a classic. In a resolution dated July 14, 1795, the National Assembly designated it as France's national anthem. Due to its association with the revolution, "La Marseillaise" was outlawed by Napoleon during the Second Restoration. It was commissioned following the July Revolution of 1830, but Napoleon III again outlawed it and wouldn't be resurrected until 1879.
