Marry Mallon, also known as ‘Typhoid Mary’ was a typhoid carrier. She was an Irish immigrant cook who worked for several wealthy families in New York City. During her employment, several members of the families she worked for contracted typhoid fever, caused by Salmonella typhi. After investigation, it was found that Mallon was an asymptomatic carrier of the bacteria, meaning that she carried and spread the disease without showing any symptoms herself. She was then isolated for the rest of her life in a quarantine facility.
