Detailed Solution

Rammohan Roy: In Calcutta, he founded the Brahmo Samaj, a reform organisation. He was especially moved by the issue that widows faced in their daily lives. He began a campaign against Sati practice. Sati was outlawed in 1829.
Swami Dayanand Saraswati founded the Arya Samaj in 1875, an organisation that attempted to purify Hinduism of its flaws. It also advocated for widow remarriage.
Veerasalingam Pantulu: In the Telugu-speaking areas of the Madras Presidency, Veerasalingam Pantulu established a widow remarriage association.
Jyotirao Phule: Jyotirao Phule was one of the most vocal "low-caste" leaders. He promoted caste equality and founded the Satyashathak Samaj. He proposed that Shudras band together to fight caste discrimination.
Pandita Ramabai: A great Sanskrit scholar who felt Hinduism was oppressive to women, she wrote a book about the miserable lives of upper caste Hindu women. She established a Widow Home in Poona to provide shelter for widows who had been subjected to the wrath of their husband's relatives.
Periyar: E.V. Ramaswamy Naicker, also known as Periyar, was an ascetic in his youth who meticulously studied Sanskrit scriptures. He founded the self-esteem movement and advocated for social equality.
Mumtaz Ali was a reformer who reinterpreted Koranic verses to support women's education.
Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar: He, along with many other reformers in Bombay, established a girls' school. The Hindu Mahila Vidyalaya, founded in 1875, was one of the first institutions of its kind.
