The plain situated between the Western ghats and the Arabian Sea Coast is conversant as the Western Coastal Plain. The approximate width of this narrow plain is about 64 km. The southern part of this plain is prominent for its lagoons.
The plain placed between the Eastern ghats and the coast of the Bay of Bengal is known as the Eastern Coastal Plain. This comparatively broader plain has an average width of around 80-100km. These plains form very few lagoons.
The major ports of this coastal plain are Kandla, Mumbai, Marmagao, and Cochin. This coastal plain forms no big delta.
