Since SHGs deal with funds and reserves, they get an income out of that, thus, helping women become financially self-reliant. Since banks come under formal sector credit sources, they need collateral and proper documentation to give a loan to a borrower. Therefore, the banks ask for collateral, which can include buildings, livestock, or land, as security for themselves till the loan is repaid and can be used to recover the loan amount in case the borrower fails to repay the loan.
