Detailed Solution

Fed by the Gangotri glacier, the headwaters of Ganga, the Bhagirathi is further joined by Alaknanda at Devprayag. It emerges from the mountains to the plains at Haridwar. A few major rivers form the tributaries of Ganga, namely, the Yamuna, the Ghaghara, the Gandak, and the Kosi. Flowing eastwards till Farakka in West Bengal, it forms the northernmost point of the Ganga Delta. The length of the river Ganga is over 2500km.
Entering India in the Ladakh district of Jammu and Kashmir, through the west, the river Indus has its origin near lake Mansarovar in Tibet. The tributaries joining in the Kashmir region are the Zaskar, the Nubra, the Shyok, and the Hunza. It emerges from the mountains at Attock, flowing through Balistan and Gilgit. Near Mithankot in Pakistan, the tributaries, namely, the Sutlej, the Beas, the Ravi, the Chenab, and the Jhelum, join together to enter the Indus river. It is one of the longest rivers in the world, with a length of about 2900 km.
Flowing in an eastward direction parallel to the Himalayas, the Brahmaputra originates very close to the sources of the Indus and the Sutlej in Tibet, east of Mansarovar lake. Enters India in Arunachal Pradesh by taking a U-turn at Namcha Barwa, where it is known as Dihang. It is then joined by tributaries from the Brahmaputra in Assam, namely, the Dibang and the Lohit. The channel shifting of the river is also very frequent.
