Detailed Solution

  • The Civil Disobedience Movement - On March 12, 1930, a huge group of people, led by Mahatma Gandhi from Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi, a seaside village in Gujarat, breached the salt embargo by producing salt from seawater. This Salt March or Dandi March initiated the Civil Disobedience Movement. Mahatma Gandhi led the Satyagraha in reaction to the British government's salt tariff in India.
  • Non-Cooperation Movement - Mahatma Gandhi organised the Non-Cooperation movement to urge the British government of India to grant India self-rule or swaraj. The Chauri Chaura incident led to the movement's demise in February 1922. A hostile crowd set fire to a police station in Chauri Chaura, Uttar Pradesh, during a clash between the police and movement protesters. Twenty-two policemen were killed. Gandhi halted the campaign after the concept of ahimsa, or nonviolence was breached.
  • The Jallianwala Bagh massacre: The Jallianwala Bagh massacre was one of the world's greatest mass slaughters. At least 379 people were killed, and over 1,200 more were injured when British Indian Army forces opened fire on an unarmed crowd of Indian civilians gathered to protest against the Rowlatt Act in Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar, Punjab, on April 13, 1919.
