The Prime Minister leads the Union of India. The Governor is the head of the state and is appointed by the President based on the recommendations of the union cabinet. In urban local government, the Mayor is in charge of the Municipal Corporation, whereas in rural local government, the Sarpanch is in charge. Except for the Governor, all three, Prime Minister, Mayor, and Sarpanch, are directly elected by the people for a five-year term. For five years, the President of India appoints the Governor of a particular state. To be appointed by the President, the Governor must meet all the eligibility conditions listed above.
