Detailed Solution

Resources can be categorised as follows:
1)      By Origin- Resources are classified as biotic and abiotic based on origin. Biotic resources refer to everything that possesses life. E.g., animals, fish, birds, etc. Abiotic resources refer to all non-living organisms. E.g., earth, air, water, rocks, etc.
2)      By Depletion- Based on exhaustibility, resources are classified as Renewable and Non-Renewable. Renewable resources are replenishable and can be renewed. E.g., wind energy, solar energy, hydropower, etc. Non-renewable resources are not replenishable and are present in limited amounts. E.g., oil, coal, natural gas, etc.
3)      By ownership- Based on ownership, resources are classified as individual, Community, Domestic and International. Individual resources are owned by individuals and are not for others' use. Community resources are used by the community and are made for people's benefit. National resources are under the control of the State or Union Government of a country. They are all the resources within political boundaries. International resources are under international organisations. No nation can utilise these resources without the permission of international bodies.
4)      4) Development Status– Resources are classified as potential, developed, stock and reserve based on development. Potential resources are found in a particular region and can be used in the future. Developed resources are currently being used. Their quantity and quality have been determined. Stocks are the resources for which enough technology is not present to extract. Reserves are defined, and their present amount is recognised. But they are reserved for the future and not currently being used.
