James Hargreaves patented the hand-powered spinning jenny in 1770. After seeing his wife's spinning wheel knocked over and the spindle continuing to spin, James Hargreaves invented the spinning jenny.

The steam engine was not invented by James Watt. However, he did enhance the engine apparatus. Watt discovered a fault in the Newcomen steam engine in 1764.
