Six joint stock firms were established in Bengal by businessman Dwarakanath Tagore, who is from Bengal. It was an industrial investing endeavour from the turn of the century. India's first steel mill, the Tata Iron and Steel Company, was established in Jharkhand by Jamsetji Tata in 1907. Both Jamshed jees Tata and Dinshaw Petit, two Parsis who built sizable industrial edifices in Bombay, are Parsis. They are both considered pioneering Indian businesspeople. They both initially became wealthy by selling raw cotton to England and exporting some of it to China. In 1917, a Marwari businessman named Seth Hukumchand built India's first jute factory in Calcutta.
