Prussian statesman Otto von Bismarck was the first-ever chancellor of Germany. Bismarck gathered at the Hall of Mirrors in the Palace of Versailles in 1871 to proclaim the new German Empire headed by Kaiser William I of Prussia.
Italian revolutionary Giuseppe Mazzini was born. In 1807, he was born in Genoa. He joined the Carbonari, a clandestine organisation. He was exiled in 1831 as a 24-year-old for plotting a revolt in Liguria. Mazzini founded the movement ‘Young Italy’ for the unification of a Republican Italian nation.
In January 1871, William I, the Prussian King, was proclaimed the German Emperor in a ceremony held at Versailles.
Cavour was the Chief Minister of King Victor Emmanuel II of Sardinia-Piedmont. He was an Italian nationalist and statesman who strived for the Unification of Italy.
