Biodegradable pollutant is a form of garbage that other living species can decompose. It mainly comes from plant or animal sources. The biodegradable trash can be buried and can be allowed to decompose naturally. Examples include food waste, green wastes, domestic sewage etc.

Non-biodegradable pollutants is defined as the pollutant which cannot be broken down into simpler, substances in nature. Examples includes : DDT, plastics, polythene bags, insecticides, pesticides etc.
