There is a federal division of powers in India. This means that the management and functions regarding law and implementation are divided at each level in India.
1) At the centre, the Union of India is looked after by the Council of Ministers, which has the maximum powers in India. Its head is the Prime Minister of India. He is the real executive.
2) In states, the head is the Governor. His position is similar to that of the President at the centre, but the area and extent of powers he can exercise are limited. Still, he has the most authority in the particular state he is posted to.
3) Municipal Corporations are bodies acting in municipalities. The heads of these are called Mayor.
4) Gram panchayats are administrative bodies at the village level. The Sarpanch is the head here.
