Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Act (MGNREGA) is a demand-driven wage employment program enacted by the government of India in 2005 under which all those able and willing to do manual; or unskilled work are guaranteed 100 days of assured wage employment in a year.

The Swarnajayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY) was launched in 1999 to bring the assisted poor families in the country out of poverty by way of organizing them into self-help groups (SHGs).
