Belgium, a small European nation, has a population of little over one crore but the ethnic composition of the country is very complex. The country’s 59% of the total population lives in Flemish regions and speaks the Dutch language, while the rest, 40%, speak French and live in the Wallonia region, and the remaining 1% speak German. In Brussels, the capital city, however, the scenario is different, as 80% of people speak French and 20% speak Dutch. Sri Lanka has a diverse population with significant groups, namely, the Sinhala-speaking community (74%) and the Tamil- speaking community (18%). The Tamil community has two subgroups - ‘Sri Lankan Tamils’ and ‘Indian Tamils’. Sri Lankan Tamils are concentrated in the north and east of the country and mainly belong to Hinduism or Muslim. At the same time, the Sinhala community follows Buddhism and is concentrated in the rest of the country’s region.
