Detailed Solution

The kings of the Mughal Empire enjoyed hunting, as seen in many Mughal artworks. Tigers and other animals were hunted for long years as part of India's culture and dignity. According to legend, the Maharaja of Surguja killed 1,157 tigers and 2,000 leopards on his own during his lifetime. The British believed that by destroying dangerous animals, they could civilise India. On the basis that tigers, wolves and other huge animals presented a threat to cultivators, the British offered rewards for hunting them. Between 1875 and 1925, about 80,000 Tigers, 150,000 Leopards, and 200,000 Wolves were killed for the reward. Hunting Tigers evolved into a Sporting Trophy over time.
