1) Gujjar- Jammu and Kashmir's Gujjar Bakarwals are pastoral nomads who travel in groups known as "Kafila." The elements of cold and snow dictate their motions. These Gujjars migrate to the Shivalik range's low hills during the winter when the high mountains are blanketed in snow. These pastoralists return to the slopes when the snow melts and the mountains become lush and green in the summer.
2) Gaddi- The Gaddi Shepherds of Himachal Pradesh follow a similar movement pattern. They also spend the winters in the Shivaliks and the summers in Lahaul and Spiti.
3) Dhangars- The Dhangars live in the Central Plateau of Maharashtra during the monsoon. This area is semi-arid. They continue their journey towards Konkan in October.
4) Raikas- Rajasthan's Raikas combine agriculture and pastoralism. They relocate to new and greener pastures when their grazing grounds grow dry.
