Maximilian Robespierre, leader of the Jacobins, followed the policy of severe control and punishment. Everyone criticised his role during the Reign of Terror. The Reign of Terror was a period from 1793 to 1794. He punished those people whom he considered enemies of the Republic, ex-nobles, clergy and political opponents. Those who were found guilty were guillotined. His policies were harsh. Through his rules and procedures, he tried to control the market. Even his supporters began to demand moderation. He imposed a maximum ceiling on wages and prices and controlled the market.
