Detailed Solution

Maximilien Robespierre's reign is also known as the Reign of Terror. Thousands of people were arrested and put to death by the revolutionary government of France between September 5, 1793, and July 27, 1794. Maximilien Robespierre, a statesman and lawyer from France, was in charge of the Terror, fueled in part by the conflict between the Jacobins and the Girondins, the two most important political groups in France at the time. The aristocracy, clergy, middle-class people, and anybody else suspected of counterrevolutionary activities made up the majority of individuals who were detained and put to death during the early Terror. The Girondins, who were the Convention's largest faction at the time, were among the revolutionary government officials who perished during the Terror.
