Mendelism is the study of inheritance laws as first described by Gregor Mendel in his pea plant experiments.

Mendel demonstrated that genes control traits and that these genes can be passed down from parents to offspring in a predictable manner.

He also demonstrated the existence of dominant and recessive alleles and how they influence the expression of traits in offspring.

Diploids are organisms with two chromosome sets, one from each parent. These chromosomes carry the genetic information for the individual and determine physical and behavioural characteristics.

Mendel's experiments focused on the inheritance of traits in diploid organisms and demonstrated that the expression of traits in offspring can be predicted based on the allele combination they inherit from their parents.
