Detailed Solution

Merchants travelled in ships or caravans to trade.
A caravan is a group of people that travel together, usually on a commercial route. Caravans were most frequently used along the Silk Road and in desert areas. Travelling in large groups helped businesses achieve economies of scale and increased security from criminals. Caravans used to often transport pricey and lucrative products like silks or jewellery between East Asia and Europe. Caravans become an enticing target for robbers as a result. A successful mission may generate enormous profits, much like the later European spice trade. Many kingdoms along important trade routes were enticed to construct caravanserais by the opulent commodities that caravans carried.
