Meromyosin is a fragment of the myosin molecule resulting from enzymatic cleavage of myosin. It consists of three parts:

Head: The head region of meromyosin is known as heavy meromyosin (HMM) or subfragment 1 (S1). This part contains the globular head responsible for the ATPase activity and actin-binding during muscle contraction.
Short Arm: The region connecting the globular head to the tail is also part of heavy meromyosin (HMM) or subfragment 2 (S2).
Tail: The remaining portion of meromyosin is called light meromyosin (LMM) or subfragment 3 (S3). The tail region is responsible for providing structural support to the myosin molecule and plays a role in the formation of the thick filaments in muscle cells.
