Metallurgical coal used in the smelting of iron ore is Bituminous. Metallurgical coal is high-grade bituminous coal with an exceptional value for smelting iron in blast furnaces. Coal that has been buried deep and vanquished to increased temperatures is bituminous. It's the most popular coal in commercial use. At the same time, Lignite is low-grade brown coal, soft with high moisture. The top lignite reserves are in Neyveli in Tamil Nadu and are used for electricity generation.
